Hey there! My name is Emily Hilligoss. I am a mommy, wife, teacher, daughter, sister, and friend. I cook (and eat all the foods!), read, travel (when I can), work, and plan like a maniac.
I was born and raised in Illinois, right outside of St. Louis. I had HUGE plans to make it as an actress. *insert laughter here.* Once I graduated college, my bags were already packed and I drove out to that magical westcoast land. I adore Los Angeles. It is a cut-throat, fast-paced land of beauties and devils. It also holds some of the best people I have ever met; and my favorite sushi spots. Obviously.
Believe it or not, I did get to see my name on the screen before it was all said and done. It was in the middle of my acting hustle, that I met my soon-to-be husband.
I straight up stumbled into the role of “military spouse.” I was introduced to my husband by my high school best friend. She had married his brother. Now I say introduced, I really mean we chatted on Facebook. No seriously, we had never actually met in person. I lived in LA and he was stationed in Louisiana! This lasted for several months before he finally got lucky at a casino one night and bought me a plane ticket. I knew the second I walked out of Love Airport in Dallas, that I was marrying this guy. Cheesy? Oh yes. Our first date was Medieval Times. He will tell you he took me to dinner in a castle. We did the long-distance thing for a little over a year before he proposed on Christmas 2012. I bid farewell to California without a second thought and began house hunting in the South. Just as I moved to him, he deployed. So began my “new” life.
I wouldn’t change a thing. I am telling the truth people. Is it frustrating that we could move at any time; that he deploys constantly; that I will have to find ANOTHER job at some point? I mean…YES!!! However, this guy is my best friend. We have an amazing and beautiful little girl, Vivienne, who just happens to be the funniest person I’ve ever met. We also have two dogs, Zoey and Penny, that sleep under the covers with their heads on the pillows. We work hard to make our life OURS and to find the everyday joys in it.
Finding balance and joy in the craziness of military life can be incredibly difficult some days. However, working towards both is so important to me. I will be posting some of my favorite recipes; I love food that puts a smile on everyone’s face. I like to share products that I think are helpful, useful, or just plain cool; an amazing planner to remind me get a haircut, or a great dry shampoo because I didn’t have time to wash said hair. I will also share stories with you about my life or my family adventures in hopes that you connect with it and see that we are all doing our best. In the end, we need each other. We need these connections to lift each other up and to say “You got this!”
